Islamic dua (prayer) for infertility & conceiving

This post is written for Muslim women seeking duas for infertility.

The Pregnancy Guide for Muslim Women

‘The Pregnancy Guide for Muslim Women’ by Ummu Muawiya was sent to me by someone who meant well but she sent it at the worst time for me (just after she had a child). However sweet her intention, it still felt like salt in a wound. For this reason for a long time I couldn’t face opening this book. However, after a year I opened it and discovered that there are two prayers for Muslim women trying to conceive. If this can help one of you out there, then it is worth it sharing.

The first prayer is using saffron and a taweez – I don’t know if using a taweez is halal, so I’ve decided to exclude it. The next prayer is..

Overcoming Infertility

البارِئُ, المُصَوِّر

Al-baari-ul-musowiru

“The Shaper & The Inventor”

The book recommends fasting for seven days and reciting the above names of Allah 21 times when you break your fast. (pg 164)

The author also recommends writing Ul-Musowiru on a piece of paper and keeping it with you (personally.. sounds similar to the taweez approach and again I’m not sure how halal that is).

Conceiving a child

Iqrasense

O my Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors.”

Rabbi-laa-tehzhirni far-dow weh-anteh khairul-waaritheen

This is my favourite and the one most recommended across the net (from what I can see when Googling). Read after making salah. It’s from the Quran (Surah 21 (Al Ambiya) : Verses:89-90)

Read the explanation of the dua on islamqa.info.

I want to share this brilliant post on Islam and Inferility on Facebook by Imam Omar Suleiman. Maryam Lane also wrote a brilliant post but unfortunately it looks like the she has locked her blog but you could always request access from her. This post by her really put things into perspective for me: The definition of a Mother: dealing with Infertility, the Islamic perspective
I pray that InshaAllah this helps you.

I opened Pandora's box and infertility entered my life.

  17. Fathima says:

I lost my two and half month pregnancy and I conceived after 9 years of my married life. Plzz pray for me to have a healthy pregnancy as soon as possible plzz pray for me.i am going through a very hard time thse days. Plzz pray.

    • I’m very sad to read this. I imagine it’s devastating. You’re in my prayers.

    • Fathima says:

Thnx sister for feeling my pain and praying for me. Pls keep praying for me I am going through bad depression. I want to keep those fasting which u mentioned. One doubt.is that fasting should be kept continues or can be shuffled. Plz suggest me. And plzzzz pray.

      • Dear Fathima, I can’t comment on whether the fasts should be consecutive days or shuffled as they didn’t state this in the book. I can only give you my opinion (Allah forgive me if something is incorrect). We all have our own relationship with Allah (swt) and He knows us best. What matters most is your intention and what’s in your heart. If fasting consecutively is a struggle, then do the fasts as you can do them. The reason I say this is because I always feel that when we say X amount of duas/fasts will result in Allah doing X for us.. it feels like we are bartering with Him. We don’t know whether He will accept or whether He has something else written for us. I personally don’t think it should be that we barter with Allah. In my opinion (and I am no scholar) the time of fasting should be a time to ask for forgiveness, strength and for the dua to be accepted. To make dua from the heart and a time to cleanse any pain from our hearts. This journey is painful and sometimes it can feel like a punishment but I think there is so much that we can’t see or don’t know that He does. I really do pray InshaAllah that you are gifted with a healthy pregnancy soon.

      • Fathima says:

Thank you for ur reply it helped me and encouraged me a lot. Thanks once again and remember me ur dua.

  18. urooj farhan says:

Thnk u sis for advicing me dua for pregency. …
I feel vry hopeless I m tryng to concive a bby frm lst 4 mntx 😦

    • Usually they say scientifically it takes 12-18mths to conceive. 4 months is still very early so I wouldn’t lose hope. Otherwise you are adding extra stress to the situation which doesn’t help. Instead keep your iman and be patient. If after a year you are still struggling then see your doctor as they may be able to help or identify issues.

  19. lateefah says:

Salam was feeling so depressed and came across this site!, I have being married for 16years and am yet to concieve, done everything halal to achieve this but haven’t met with Allah’s kunfayakun. Please remember me in your duas

Salaams sister. I understand how you feel
I have been trying for the past 13 years also. We have left it in ALLAH’S hands now

  20. Ellie says:

    Sisters,

I’ve gone through the post written by all of you who are yearning for a child for years! I myself have been trying for more than year for Allah (SWT) to bless me with a child and still waiting for His mercy & blessing. My heart goes out to all of you my sisters, as I read your post I realize some of you are going through much more pain than I am. I pray that Allah increase in patience and taqwa and accept your dua. Please do keep me in dua as well.

May Allah make us among those who never lose hope, among those who are patient and thankful no matter what our situation is. May Allah make us among those believers who glorify Him, shows gratitude and ask for His forgiveness during our good times and bad times.

    Ameen.

    • Saima says:

Assalam alikum sisters. In chapter Al-Baqarah (The Cow), verse 155 we also find:

{Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere} (Quran 2:155)

May Allah (swt) accept all our duas. Please keep me in your duas.

  21. Ishrat Rizwan says:

      • Ellie says:

        Walaikum Assalam Sister,
I looked into this and majority of scholars suggests that there are no sin in going through an IUI or IVF procedure as long no ‘donor sperm’ or ‘donor egg’ is used. Meaning that the “egg” and the “sperm” has to be derived from Husband and wife.

    • Ellie says:

      Assalamu Alaikum Sisters,

I’ve been seeking fertility treatment for a while and I was pregnant couple of months ago. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended up in a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I was devastated. A friend of mine going through similar journey recommended doing the following, I thought I’d share as it might be useful.

She recommended, reciting Surah Maryam every night before going to sleep and blow in a bottle of water. The next day drink that water and make your spouse drink it as well. Continue doing it every night for as long as you can. Also try and pray Qiyam-Ul-Layl ( Tahajjud prayer ) seeking the blessing of Allah (SWT) for a righteous offspring.

I honestly couldn’t do it for a long time but I did do it for a couple of days. By the blessing of Allah (SWT), I’m now 3 months pregnant.

I also recited these two dua’s after every Salaah that was mentioned in this post.

May Allah make it easier on you!

      JazakAllahu Khairan

      • Almeerah says:

        Salaam
I’ve been crying to conceive got just about a year now. I wanted to know that even if my husband is away & I recite Surah Maryum & also pray duas will that be also fine? Or does my husband have to be here with me whilst I recite Surah Maryum & blow on water?
I have been told to also recite Ya-Wahidu several times & this will help one to fall pregnant.
Is there anything else I can recite or do??
As my husband lives in another country and I live in England, London it’s hard as he isn’t here, so what dua or what can I do to recite while I’m here & then when I go to see him In a few months what else can I recite for myself to conceive & fall pregnant.
        JazakAllah Khair
