don’t leave before you leave

Work has been kicking my butt lately. I’ve been in the office for 12-15 hour days, which, at 28 weeks pregnant, is incredibly exhausting. However, I kind of love it.

My fear about leaving for maternity/parental leave for an entire year was rooted in the fact that I didn’t feel like I was ‘making enough of a name for myself’ that my presence would be missed. Right now however, I am working on a number of high profile projects that are getting me visibility with the right people. I’m feeling far more confident that I am a valuable asset to my team and that I’m not ‘easily replacable’.

My approach to my last few months at work are based on advice from Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO. I took the time to watch her TED speech and what she said really resonated with me – especially when I was planning on…
